Be the “Giver” not the Taker “Receiver”

You can only define yourself with one of these two identities in your relationships: the “Giver” or the “Taker” (also called the “Receiver”). You might ask, “Who is the Giver and who is the Taker (Receiver)?”

The Givers

The Givers are those who commit to creating the best version of themselves possible by working on their:
- Character
- Values
- Morals
- Career
- Finances

They do this to attract and keep others who do the same.

The Giver:
- Commits to work on their self-awareness and self-confidence
- Invests in their ability to attract and maintain relationships
- Practices self-love and self-care to better their relationship with themselves
- Understands the value they bring to a relationship
- Works out consistently, not just when they feel like it
- Understands the importance of feeling and looking their best
- Dresses and speaks in a certain way
- Takes responsibility for their appearance
- Is on a constant journey of self-discovery
- Controls their feelings and is emotionally responsible
- Consistently seeks to understand themselves to better understand others
- Falls in love with themselves and takes themselves out on dates
- Has a small circle of friends and spends most of their time alone to create clarity in their life

The Receivers

The Receiver:
- Is committed to chasing the right partner but fails to realize they must become someone who will attract the right partner
- Can easily attract their perception of the right person but struggles to maintain the relationship
- Hasn’t invested in their ability to keep a relationship
- Wastes time and potentially damages their self-confidence in their quest for the right person
- Struggles with confidence issues because they haven’t built something worth feeling confident about
- Lacks competence in their ability to give the best version of themselves
- Struggles with jealousy due to their lack of competence
- Wants instant gratification because of their inability to build rapport
- Seeks fast or instant commitment to avoid being exposed

As Acts 20:35 ESV states, “Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” It’s clear that giving is better than receiving.

The Giver attracts and builds successful relationships with other Givers, while Receivers typically attract other Receivers. Today in America, more than half of marriages end in divorce. It’s time to really think about the facts and break away from society’s guidelines on building relationships because they’re clearly not working!
